💉💊 “Medicine is broken” - Ben Goldacre . When it comes to #nonfiction, memoirs and true crime are usually my go-to, but I thought I’d branch out, and I’m so glad I did! Bad Pharma: How Drug Companies Mislead Doctors and Harm Patients by Ben Goldacre made for fascinating listening! 💉💊 #BookReview: Bad Pharma is an attack on the pharmaceutical industry, Goldacre is dropping truth bombs left, right, and centre! This book highlights problems, fixes, and suggestions on how to make the pharmaceutical industry better, and more accountable! . Medicine is one of those topics you may know bits and pieces about, you may have heard rumours and chatter, but, unless you’re in the field of #medicine, it’s really hard to know where to begin when it comes to separating the facts from the myths. #BadPharma is a great place to begin! Expect to be shocked and outraged! . To read, or listen, to this book in its entirety, I believe you have to have an interest in the subject beyond a casual chat with friends where you put the ‘world to rights’. You have to want to know and understand, and have a strong interest in the flaws of the industry, or I fear you’ll lose interest in this book once/if the shock-factor wears off. . Goldacre raises so many valid points in this book, it is extremely well researched. It doesn’t read like the ramblings of a conspiracy theorist – you just know it’s rooted in truth; it makes too much sense not to be. . In book form, while the topic interests me, I don’t know if I’d have picked it up for fear of it being too dense, and statistical. I’m glad I listened to it – Jot Davies is an excellent narrator – it wasn’t as dense as I thought it’d be (but that might be because I listened to it, rather than read it), it was detail-heavy, but in an accessible way. It’s an audiobook I recommend if the topic interests you. —— (3 of 19 #mynonfiction19)

... Obsession. Witchcraft. Murder. #TheFuries. Yesterday, I attended the preview evening for The Furies by Katie Lowe - @fatgirlphd - it was great to meet Katie, and hear her talk about her book, her writing inspiration, and generally just hang out with her. She’s a very cool person, with killer nails, and I’m so excited to read her debut novel! 📖 1998. A sixteen-year-old Girl is found dead on school property, dressed in white and posed on a swing. No known cause of death. Four girls know what happened. They’ve kept their silence. Until now. —— The event was at @thelasttuesdaysociety, a new venue for me, and one I love! Thank you to Jaime @ HarperC for the invite, and answering my long-standing publishing question about why mass publication days exist. I know I’m not the only one who feels like 1 or 2 books are published every day, but on select days, it feels like every book ever written is published! And don’t you love how I’ve keep that reason secret 😜. But I will share that The Furies publishes on May 2nd! —— Have a good weekend y’all 😉
#WhoIsFiftyFive? The great thing about the #bookcommunity is how easy it is to learn about upcoming releases. It took one tweet for me to know I needed to read 55 by James Delargy. All the thank yous to @simonschusteruk for sending me a copy ahead of publication day, which is 04.04.19. —— Gabriel walks in to a police station, covered in dried blood. He tells Police Sergant, Chandler Jenkins, what he remembers. The man who took him was called Heath. Heath told him he was going to be number 55. His 55th victim. Heath is a serial killer. . A manhunt is launched. A man who says he is Heath walks into the same station. He tells Chandler he was taken by a man named Gabriel. Gabriel told Heath he was going to be victim 55. Gabriel is the serial killer. —— 😱 Do you see why I have to read this one!? Monday morning, let’s do the damn thing (with lots of coffee, and thoughts of curling up with a good book this evening!) —— I give you my #birthdaybookstack 📚 Impressive, right!? —— My course ends in July, and I have coursework to do and a clinical placement to complete (take this as my haphazard social media engagement warning). The next 3 months are going to be crazy busy, and school has to be the priority, and I need to start preparing for a change in life balance when I qualify. I’m looking at the remainder of the year as a transition period in my life. And this post became more sharing than I intended, so let’s go back to staring at the #bookstack 🧡
