Welcome to my stop on the Search for Maylee blog tour, I’m delighted to be sharing my review with you today.
Genre: Thriller/ Suspense-Thriller
Publication Date: October 6th, 2017
Since Maylee was abducted from her high school the very month of graduation, her Aunt Autumn has never lost hope in finding her. It’s been three years. Autumn has finally reached inside herself and found the courage to track down an old lead. She moves across the country to find him. Will Autumn be able to pry Maylee’s case back open? More importantly, what will Autumn uncover in the process of searching for Maylee? It’s a cold dark world we live in, and she is about to find out just how cruel it can be. Strength and determination are on Autumn’s side and she will do whatever it takes to either bring Maylee home, or to deliver the justice she deserves.
Two things initially made me want to read this novel – firstly, Maylee is in high school so this is a missing teenager, rather than a young child, and secondly, it’s an aunt searching for her niece, rather than a mother searching for her daughter. These two things made this novel immediately standout in a sea of ‘missing child’ novels.
And it’s a good job it’s an aunt, instead of a mother, because Maylee’s mother is just awful – she could not care less that her daughter is missing, ooo she’s one unlikeable character. Autumn, on the other hand, is likeable and focused, moving across the country to bring her niece home, dead or alive.
Search for Maylee was a completely different read to the one I was expecting, in fact, it was better than the one I was expecting. It’s perfect for a one-sitting read, not too dark or disturbing in its delivery, no gritty content that will give you nightmares; just a cover to cover enjoyable novel. The themes don’t run too deep but the plot is more complex than I expected, though the case was complex, it remained a light-hearted read. The plot is very suspenseful in nature and you’re not entirely sure what direction its going to take.
This novel is made by the characters Oviatt created; when Autumn moves to her new apartment she gets some unexpected help in her search for Maylee. Her neighbour, Jeremy, who also happens to be the apartment complex manager, and his friends – each one of these guys were brilliant characters and added some great humour to this novel, the banter between them and Autumn was great.
The tension throughout this novel was slowly building and it reached its climax in a very good ending, it was unexpected and a little emotional. Overall, I have no reservations recommending this novel, light-hearted in nature but full of suspense with some great characters! The search for Maylee is more complex than anticipated and you even get to see Autumn go ‘undercover’ and things get more dangerous than her, or I, imagined – an enjoyable fast-paced thrill ride.

About the Author:
Didi Oviatt is an intuitive soul. She’s a wife and mother first, with one son and one daughter. She’s a suspense novelist, and magazine columnist second. Her thirst to write was developed at an early age, and she never looked back. After digging down deep and getting in touch with her literary self, she’s writing mystery/thrillers like Search For Maylee, Aggravated Momentum, The Stix, and New Age Lamians (a trilogy to be). Along with a six- piece short story collection called the Time Wasters. She’s also collaborated with Kim Knight in an ongoing interactive short story anthology The Suspenseful Collection. When Didi doesn’t have her nose buried in a book, she can found enjoying a laid back outdoorsy life. Time spent sleeping under the stars, hiking, fishing, and ATVing the back roads of beautiful mountain trails, and bathing in the desert heat plays an important part of her day to day lifestyle.
