August is over which means my favourite season is here – Autumn! I’ve had a wonderfully bookish month, reading a total of 19 books and one short story. One of the books was a Ninja Book Box read so I can’t talk about that one just yet, but it was brilliant! I was debating whether I should switch from monthly to weekly wraps ups as these posts can be quite long. Of the 55 people who voted in my Twitter poll, 61% prefer monthly and 39% weekly, so it looks like monthly wraps up are here to stay! But I will try to condense them and not ramble so much.
The Good:
The standout 5 star books of the month were:
The Scandal by Fredrik Backman
Sweet Little Lies by Caz Frear
Confessions by Kanae Minato
Also read and reviewed this month:
A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
This is the End of the Story by Jan Fortune
The Lost Boy by Christina Henry
See What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt
The Collector by John Fowles
Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed
The Last Act of Hattie Hoffman by Mindy Mejia
The Death of Her by Debbie Howells
Other Voices, Other Rooms by Truman Capote
The Last Resort by Steph Broadribb (short story review)
Reviews coming early next month:

September’s book is Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine
Gina Royal is the definition of average–a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor–the ultimate warrior mom. With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace. But just when she’s starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake–and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed–or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she’s learned how to fight evil. And she’ll never stop.

Still think that 61% is wrong! 😂

I think those 61% are kind, pleasant people who we should be entirely grateful for there existence in this world – I love them all…and it has nothing to do with the fact they voted for monthly wrap ups!!

I’m afraid to ask what that makes me 😂

WOW…19 books…you’re heading into Amy reading territory:)!! I missed the Twitter vote but I like the monthly wrap ups as well. I just finished Beartown aka The Scandal and I loved it!

Haha, I don’t know how Amy gets through so many books, one can only hope to reach her levels! I’m going to stick with the monthly, and it’s less pressure than weekly. So glad you loved Beartown, such a special book, it really showcased the small-town vibe which I have grown to love!

Any month when you can hit three 5⭐️ books is a good reading month! And I hope you enjoy them all! They’re 3 very different reads but equally as good!
