Bookish Bingo: Winter 2016-2017 (TBR: Help!)

Hey lovely people! I’m back from Spain, I had a lovely time (despite it being freezing cold!), my next visit will definitely be in summer time. I have one question though – siesta, why? Don’t get me wrong, I’m partial to an afternoon nap but why must everything shut for like 4 hours? I’m ready to go shopping at 1.30pm, nope – siesta’s starting, shops won’t reopen till 5.30pm.

Anyway, I’ve been patiently waiting for the next round of bookish bingo to start and now it’s here, hosted by Bekka @ PrettyDeadlyReviews. The objective is to get as many bingo’s as possible (five across, up, down or diagonal.) This round of bingo is for books read in Dec 16, Jan 17 and Feb 17. I’ve got a few books in mind for some of the squares but others, I have no idea, so please check out my TBR and where you see ?????, please recommend a book! You get a gold star if the book you recommend is already on my shelf! I’m not expecting to read every book or complete the whole card but the more books I have in mind, the more bingo’s I’ll hopefully get.

The Card:

The TBR:

  • Green Cover: In The Woods by Tana French
  • Alternative Format: ????? (Audio-book recommendation would be great)
  • Set Abroad: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
  • Sequel: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
  • Own Voices: A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James
  • Banned Book: ????? (In this instance, Harry Potter is not an acceptable recommendation)

  • White Cover: The Wicked Boy by Kate Summerscale
  • Science Fiction: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch or Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
  • Dec, Jan, Feb Release: ?????
  • Crime: The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino
  • Survival: Pendulum by Adam Hamdy
  • Blue Cover: The Mine by Antti Tuomainen
  • LGBT: ?????
  • Super Hyped: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Twitter Poll: Create a Twitter poll & have others vote on the book you read, see pinned tweet
  • Nature on Cover: ?????

    1. Usually when you go on holiday you only have to adjust because your jet lagged, not because of siesta 😂. During those hours I did drink so much coffee, I don’t know much Spanish but I know un cafe con leche por favor 😂

  1. Hmmm – for urban fantasy, I’ve heard good things about Daniel Polansky’s A City Dreaming. For the banned book, Animal Farm or The Satanic Verses? 2017 debut – Sirens by Joseph Knox, which also works as a Dec / Jan / Feb release. For nature on the cover, At Hawthorne Time by Melissa Harrison.

  2. It’s my first bookish bingo this season, and I’m super thrilled. My Alternative Format suggestion would be the Artemis Fowl audiobook – it is absolutely engrossing, the narrator is fantastic at changing voices. Another great audiobook is The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events) – Tim Curry narrates and it’s wonderful.

    1. Rattle, and that is why you’re a book queen, how did I forget about Rattle, it looks amazing, in fact I might just preorder it now! I’ve read Ragdoll but not heard of the book by Julie Crouch, will check that one out. Thanks Kate!x

  3. LGBT = History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera, Dec, Jan, Feb release = Gilded Cage?, Romance Rec, contemporary romance… Jill Shalvis, Kristin Higgans, Lauren Layne, Jessica Lemmon… Urban Fantasty I agree with Drew on Dresden Files by Jim Butcher I love those books, or if you want a female protagonist
I would suggest the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews.

      1. Fight Club is one of my favourite movies. I actually prefered the book ending to the movie, its just a smidge different overall, but what adaptation isnt, right? Lol

It’s kind of a psychological thriller/mystery type. I really liked the first one, haven’t finished all of them. But the first is: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin.

  4. I love these but don’t think I can take part as I always slow down my reading over Christmas and into the new year and it would be forgotten. I’m not sure what to recommend for you either but I’ll put my thinking cap on!

    1. Christmas is uni holidays so I plan to read loads so I can build up some reviews so when work/uni start in the new year, I can take it easy. But yes, it’s definitely a busy time of year for most, do let me know if any book recs pop into your head!x
